When HR and union timelines collide

Professional presenting during a workplace discussion

HR calendars love neat quarters. Union and works council processes honour information rights and sequencing that do not care about your launch slide. Collision is normal; improvisation is optional.

Name the dependency early

If a policy cannot move until works council consultation completes, say so in the first five minutes. Vague “we are still aligning” language reads as delay tactics even when it is honest.

Offer a dated interim

Union interaction readiness includes proposing what will happen while the larger decision waits: interim communications to staff, temporary operational rules, or a written Q&A. Empty waiting rooms breed rumour.

Protect the next meeting

Leave with a scheduled follow-up and a shared list of documents both sides expect. Missing that appointment costs more trust than the original timeline clash.
